My Skincare Essentials

Tuesday, May 31, 2016

Last weekend, while hanging out by the pool with my friend, we were talking about our favorite skincare products. This conversation inspired me to share with you all my skincare routine. Luckily, I have pretty clear skin (thank you parents), besides a few hormonal breakouts that I get on my skin, and some acne on my back. The only difficult thing about my skin is that it's ridiculously sensitive, and many products give make my skin react badly. I mean you know the sensitivity is real when you have to wear baby sunscreen. Anyway, I'm going to share with you my skincare essentials in the order that I use them at night.

To start off the night, I wash off my makeup. I used to use the Simple Cleansing Makeup Wipes, but I found that since they came in packs of 25, I went through them very quickly, and had to buy them frequently. So, in order to save money and save myself from constantly having to go to the store, I decided to switch to using the Simple Micellar Cleansing Water, and I LOVE IT. I just pour some of it onto a cotton pad, and it easily removes all of my makeup.

After I remove my makeup, I cleanse my face with the Simple Foaming Cleanser. This product is amazing because it is literally FOAMY SOAP FOR YOUR FACE. And since it is a foaming cleanser, it takes a long time to get through a bottle of it, so it is perfect if you are on a budget, or if you just want to save a little money. This cleanser just washes off all of the dirt and oil off of my face so that it doesn't settle into my pores while I sleep and cause acne.

This next product is my holy-grail skincare products; if you take away anything from this post, remember this product. I use the St. Ives Blemish Control Apricot Scrub to exfoliate my face, get rid of face acne, and get rid of the acne on my back. During the winter, I like to use this product to get rid of all of the dead skin on my face about twice a week, but if you're skin is more dry, you might want to consider exfoliating about 3 or 4 times per week. Now, remember to buy the acne control version of this product because it contains salicylic acid, which is an anti-inflammatory that gets rid of acne.

When buying acne control products, the main 2 types of acne active ingredients is salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide. My skin loves salicylic acid, and this product clears up my skin pretty quickly. I also use this scrub on my back and it works like a charm! For all my ladies with bacne, a tip that I learned from Tati Westbrook is to tie your hair up in the shower while you let the conditioner soak in your hair. The reason behind this is that if you leave your conditioner-soaked hair on your back, the conditioner will clog your pores, which will cause pimples to form.

After you strip your face of all the makeup, dirt, and dead skin, it's important to replenish the moisture in your skin with a moisturizer or cream. I use the Bobbi Brown Hydrating Eye Creme specifically under my eyes because the skin under your eyes is very delicate, and requires a gentler formula. I remember the last time I tried an eye creme, it made my skin go totally wonky, and it made my skin like peel off and it was so gross, and I immediately threw it away. But, this product came into my life while I was a Bobbi Brown makeup class, and they gave us a travel-sized pot of this stuff. Even though it seems like such a small pot, since you only have to use a tiny (like, seriously tiny) amount of product, this little jar can last for a long time.

For the rest of my face, I use the Simple Replenishing Moisturizer. I used to use their more intensive moisturizer from Simple that came it a pot, but I prefer this one because I don't have to reach my hand into the pot, which makes it more hygienic. This is the last step in my skincare routine, and after this I usually just pass out and go to bed.

Well you made it through this very long post! Thanks for reading!
Emily
