Thrifting Tips
Tuesday, May 17, 2016Today, I wanted to share with you all some of my thrifting tips. I love thrift shopping; it's amazing. I hate spending money on clothing, and at the thrift store you can find high-quality pieces for little to nothing! Another great aspect about the thrift store is that you can't find these pieces anywhere else, because if you constantly shop at the mall, there is a large chance that someone else has the same clothing as you! I hate when you go out rocking your new clothes, and then some chick at school is wearing the same thing! Ya girl wants to look original. Ok, that's enough. Let's get on with the tips.
- Look at all of the sizes. At the thrift store, I have bought things in the size small, and in extra large. Since every brand has different sizing, don't restrict yourself to just one section.
- Check the section of the opposite sex. With items like tee-shirts, sweaters, and jacket, there is no such thing as gender. I have found many gems in the men's section, so don't be afraid to snoop it out.
- Don't forget jewelry. Many people tend to overlook the jewelry at the thrift store, but I have found real silver and gold jewelry that was the fraction of the price that you would pay at a jewelers.
- Dress for the occasion. When you are shopping at any time, it is important to dress smart. I recommend wearing something that's easy to get in and out of when you're trying on clothes. My usual outfit consists of jeans or leggings, slip-on sneakers (with socks!!! While the thrift store is very cool, it can be pretty dingy. No bare feet on the floor!), a tank top (for trying on sweaters and tee-shirts), and a cardigan or sweater.
- Don't be afraid to ask for a price reduction. If you really like a piece, and realize that it has a hole/stain on it, don't be afraid of asking the cashier if they can lower the price. Just ask nicely, and you're likely to get a reduction. Once, I was going to buy a sweatshirt, and the pocket of it was starting to fall off, and after asking, I got it for half off!
- Free up some time. After using all of these tips, it's gonna take awhile. So, clear up a lot of time when you're going thrift shopping, so that you don't miss any gems!
I hope that you enjoyed these tips, and thank you for watching!
